Council chairman defends trip by 27 to ScandanaviaThe Chairman of Sligo County Council has defended a council-organised trip by 27 people to both Norway and Denmark this week. The delegations, made up of councillors, council officials and members of the Council's Strategic Policy Committee on Transport and Infrastructure, are abroad to study piers, harbours and museums. 15 are on the trip in Copenhagen while 12 more are in Oslo. Speaking from Oslo this morning, council Chairman, Seamus Kilgannon, insisted the trip was relevant, considering the fact that Sligo County Council have recently taken over control of Sligo Harbour.. He's also defended the cost of the trip, stressing it is worthwhile. Cllr Kilgannon has dismissed suggestions that the trips are no more than a junket. He says there is a lot on their agenda, and much to be learned, which can be to the benefit of Sligo. 28th June 2007 |
