Cream of Portmarnock singing talent on show
AFTER a tough round of auditions, the cream of Portmarnock’s singing talent have been selected and are getting ready to be transformed into stars for a night.
The annual show, hosted by the Portmarnock Musical and Dramatic Society, has become so popular that this year the society had to hold auditions to find its stars
.
The would-be singing stars who were selected from the auditions are now deep in rehearsals for the big night which takes place at Portmarnock Community School 8pm Anyone who has seen the show in the past knows its run very professionally and the talent on show is hugely impressive. The annual show has grown to one of the highlights of the societys calendar and always packs out the venue.Fans of the ITV show on which the Portmarnock show is based wont be let down on the night because the production is run as close to the TV show as possible. The production comes complete with video inserts of the contestants before their transformation and even live camera feeds from backstage.
An expert team from the Portmarnock Musical and Dramatic Society coach the contestants, choreograph the act and help them transform into their pop idol with costuming and make-up.
In previous years, ordinary citizens of Portmarnock have been transformed into Britney Spears,On the night of the show itself the audience will get to participate.
Three professional judges will give 30 per cent of the points to each contestant with an audience vote deciding where the other 70 per cent of the points go.
Last year the show was hosted by Declan Keane who this year moves to the director’s share, ably assisted by co-producer, Ashling and a small army of volunteers from the society.
‘It’s a sell-out every year – it’s a full stage show with a full sound and lights rig and is always run very, very professionally,’ Declan told the Fingal Independent.
On the night of the show, the contestants will get to sing to professionally produced backing tracks or ‘click-tracks’ as they are known in the business.
The society really pulls out all the stops for this show and no stone is left unturned in making the show look and sound as professional as possible.
