Gardai investigate wave of vandalism at station A WAVE of vandalism and break-ins in the vicinity of Portmarnock Train Station is being tackled by Gardaí in Malahide. In recent weeks, Gardaí have visited estates on Station Road and given advice on security following a number of break-ins in the area. Gardaí have also leafleted passengers at Portmarnock Train Station in an effort to make passengers more vigilant and tackle a wave of vandalism, including tyre-slashing at the station. The area is being monitored by regular patrols in a determined effort to put a stop to the wave of petty crime in the area over the last number of weeks. It’s understood that Iarnród Éireann has also joined the fight against the vandals and have put funding in place to improve security at the station car park. A major upgrade of the CCTV facilities at the station is planned which local Gardaí hope will give them more complete video coverage of the station car park. The issue came to a head two weeks ago when around a dozen cars in the car park had their tyres slashed. By John Manning Wed, Apr 11 / 07 Fingal Independent |
