A further €5m for top hotel extension A FURTHER e5million development plan for the Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links complex in Portmarnock has just been announced. At last weeks official opening of the new 40-bed wing, built a cost of €5.25million, the latest details were unveiled by new General Manager, Gordon Riddell. The planned development contains several phases and central to the investment is an interior refurbishment extending to the existing bedrooms, restaurant, bars and conference / wedding facilities. Improvements to the 18-hole Bernhard Langer designed links golf course has already been carried out, with the creation of several new tee boxes and the upgrading of fairways and greens. In the new wing, designers Red Sky developed a maritime theme which runs throughout the new extension. The views from the wing stretch from the golf links, to the beach and the Irish Sea, to the sheltered landscaped courtyard, central to the hotel. There are now 139 bedrooms at the hotel. Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links is managed by Hotel Partners and is under new ownership since 2005. Capel Developments took over the complex in December 2005 and are financially backing the development strategy.
